Exec meetings are open. They are Mondays from 6:45-7:45 pm.
Present: Chair Michelle Lewin, Treasurer Hayleigh Thompson, Parliamentarian Kara Rota, SSSF Chair Aiden Bussey
Absent: Vice-Chair Madison Schramm
- We will take turns taking minutes & posting them on the senate blog for exec meetings.
- Candidates for open curriculum and SSSF positions-none for curriculum yet.
- Michelle: Vera will write a letter to the community about the curriculum committee.
- Hayleigh: Elizabeth Esser-Stuart may have found a possible candidate.
- Aiden: SSSF election needs to be held by this Friday at the latest. - Mary has expressed concern over how many special elections are being held.
- Michelle: high turnover could be caused by a failure to communicate the weight of Senate positions- maybe we could have Senators at the end of this year write next year’s election packet.
- Hayleigh: Neil suggested that too much discussion of internal Senate issues has made people lose interest in staying on Senate because they feel they aren’t effecting change
- Kara: it’s important for people to give 2 weeks notice as required by the bylaws so we have time to fill the seat
- Michelle: I will mention this during chair’s report tomorrow
- Aiden: should we dissolve Nominations committee? Only Michelle can access the ballot anyway.
- Kara: Bylaw committee will look at the possibility of making special elections an exec responsibility.
- The issue of whether Parliamentarian should be a voting member of Senate
- Kara: I feel Parliamentarian shouldn’t vote, making it a non-voting role would lend more weight and authority to the job the Parliamentarian is charged with. I would be willing to relinquish my vote this year.
- Michelle: can we bring up that bylaw change during Senate tomorrow? - Consensus reached on proposing that change during discussion of Bylaw Changes tomorrow- Michelle will write amendment, Kara will propose it.
- Michelle: during exec discussion tomorrow, I will direct conversation away from role of Parliamentarian since that will already have been dealt with in bylaw changes
- SSSF discussion/update
- Aiden: tomorrow I will send around a signup sheet for senators for homecoming events
- Michelle: I want to put the SSSF report separate from committee reports
- Aiden: tomorrow is a capture the flag game, Wednesday there will be a craft session to make signs, etc. in the Pub at 7 pm, Thursday there will be a 10 pm viewing of The Boy From Outer Space, Friday there will be a bake sale from noon-4:30, then moving to the pep rally at 4:30 on the North Lawn which all teams will attend, there will be a pie-a-senator booth and other games. Setup at 6:45, game begins at 7:30. At the game there will be more bake sale, accepting donations, archivist booth, Treble in Paradise will sing the school song and other songs during half time. We have a team of cheerleaders. The game ends around 8:15, the dance starts at 10 in Blue Room. Setup for the dance at 8:30. From 10-11:30, homecoming photos in Basement. All senators will be required to go to 2 out of the 3 Friday events. Most help needed for setup/cleanup of dance. This is a rebuilding year for SSSF. I would like bylaw to talk about funds for mayfair coming from somewhere other than the SSSF budget line, since mayfair is not traditionally a fundraising event.
*Hayleigh— report on Board of Trustees meeting – Hayleigh: The van driver was misinformed and we were more than 30 minutes late so Neil drove us (Hayleigh as treasurer, Neil and Durga as Senior class presidents) in his car. The Board didnt have information packets for us that every board member was given. The Board moved very quickly and the Friday meeting was closed to us. Enrollment in abroad programs has gone down so we are overenrolled here on campus. The Board will have another meeting in January but were vague about inviting us.
