Chair’s Report
We made $237.87 from the bakesale held on October 24th, 2008.
Introduction of new senator! Welcome Lenna Stahl!
Homecoming Reflections
Estimate of $189 profit from Homecoming events (total figure will be announced next week)
Lily: Turnout was good but there should have been more emphasis on SSSF fundraising so we could have made more money. Maybe have one event geared towards fundraising next time.
Aiden: Next time Donations Table and Bake Sale Table should be separate to encourage more donations.
Myles: I think it went very well. Everyone I talked to had a blast. People will be more aware of this event next year because this year set precedence for the following years. Next time, it would be a good idea to accept points from ID cards because a lot of people were not carrying cash on them. The success piqued a lot of interest and those who did not go this year would be curious next year.
Angelina: I think we should set a rain location for the pep rally. I think we set a great precedence for following SSSF events. People will remember how great SSSF events are and word of mouth will work in our favor.
Lena: I think the Pep Rally should be the day before.
Aiden: We have talked about that but it all happened on the same day. Fluidity of the events will heighten attendance + game date changed; hence we scheduled the events for Friday.
Lily: One thing I noticed, there were not a lot of overlapping participation. For example, a lot of the people who went to the game did not go to the dance and vice versa.
Prelim Events were not well attended. Even so, no money was spent on them so we did not lose anything by hosting the events. The movie location needed to be in a better venue.
Auction
We should start soliciting donations from students before the end of the Semester.
Ideas: private workshop with professors, Karen Lawrence dinner, Administration pie-ing contest, (housing lottery) Raffle the first one and auction the second one, alum restaurants, bronxville, gym credit, stitch & bitch donations, a night at the theater (vocal groups, comedy troupe performances). Ticket for you and a friend to a theater show (citylinks), all senators need to donate something, driving to cross county, student services, rides to airport, etc.
Discussion on whether or not we are having student performance groups performing at live auction.
Hosts for Auction: auction of position prior to Live auction.
Online auction
Might take a year break to recoup from last year and restart on repairing alum base next year.
Future Ideas
It’s a Wonderful Life is a public domain movie. A pre-Christmas event with hot chocolate and popcorn would be a great event for SSSF (a week before conference week)
Having a participation campaign in which we have classes competing over participating in donations for SSSF. For example, whoever can donate the most between two dates, they get a special event or a special prize.
Have an Ad Campaign to get the name of SSSF out on campus again.
