Everything You Wanted to Know About Student Senate!

Hello!!

Welcome to the Undergraduate Student Senate page on Sadielou.net!
This is the place to find all the info you need about Student Senate.

Senate is the governing organization of the student body and is a forum for student voice. It is a place where students are free to discuss issues that impact our collective community. Senate is also responsible for funding the majority of student events. We fund publications, student-run spaces, activities sponsored by clubs and annual community-wide events.

Student Senate meets from 1:30-3:15 every Tuesday in the Bates Meeting Room.
All Senate meetings are open to the community, and students are highly encouraged to attend as many meetings as possible! In case you can’t make the meetings, there are several ways to get updated. The Senate Chair will send out a monthly email detailing all of the recent decisions Senate has made. Senate is also making a major effort to post all of our minutes and updates right here on Sadielou.net! Senate is composed of many different committees, each working on their own projects throughout our community. We hope to make all of Senate’s activities more accessible and transparent for the student body. Feel free to make comments and tell us what you think!

If you are interested in requesting funds from Student Senate for an on campus event, a publication or any other community activity, you can use the SadieLou.net Portal (there is a link on the right hand side of this page) and fill out all of your information using the online form.

Also, if you would like to be on the agenda this fall to raise any issues that impact our community, please email the chair at studentsenate@gm.slc.edu. We are always excited to have students join our meetings to discuss issues that affect us all.

Below is more information on the Subcommittees of Student Senate

Student Activities Subcommittee (SAS)

Funding for student activities is collected from the student activities fee and most is allocated by the Student Activities Subcommittee. The members meet weekly to approve proposals for student-sponsored campus events and to coordinate the planning of these activities. The subcommittee is composed of two SAS senators, the senate treasurer, and the president of each class. The Student Sente Treasurer also serves as the chair of SAS. A member of the Student Affairs Office attends meetings and acts as an advisor. SAS meetings are also open to the community and students are encouraged to attend.

SAS meets at 5:45pm on Monday evenings in the Bates Conference Room B (through the health food bar)

Students for Students Scholarship Fund (SSSF)

The SSSF is a joint committee of the Senate and the Student Life Committees. Several events and activities each year are organized by this subcommittee to raise money for the scholarship fund. The subcommittee is chaired by the SSSF chair, with two members of the Admissions Committee, the freshman, sophmore and junior class presidents, and two SSSF senators serving as members. A member of the Student Affairs staff serves in an advisory capacity. The subcommittee welcomes any ideas for fund-raising activities.

Each year, the Students for Students Scholarship Fund hosts an auction and Mayfair for kids in our surrounding communities.
